Feb. 5/13

1. Showed a grade 12 provincial english exam and discussed how it works

2. Defined the writing variables and why we need to know them, verbally went through a couple examples

3. Document Use Module- showed a couple flow charts and flow chart links

4. Assignment: Draw your own flowchart for something ordinary that you do each day such as making a sandwich, or brushing your teeth. Hand in.

5. Silent read and created wikispace accounts

6. Picked up the rest of the Literacy Power sheets and other assignments for the entire Document Use Module. Students worked on them at their own pace. Remember that the details for each Lit Power assignment is on the Lit Power wikipage in the table of contents just to the right of this page you are reading right now.

Posters and Advertisements:
1. Discussed and demonstrated the 5 variables for posters and advertisements and what makes them effective for their intended audience.
In partners, filled out a chart for 5 posters around the school and identified their variables and effectiveness.

2. Lit Power: Covers that Communicate:
Together completed the 5 variables chart for the DVD Cover part of this Lit Power assignment. Then, designed, drew and coloured their DVD Cover.
Completed the rest of the Lit Power piece.

3. Lit Power: Community Advertising:
Together, started the 5 variables chart for the Advertisement part of this Lit Power assignment. Then, they started to design their own original advertisement, based on what makes an advertisement effective.

Remember that all the detail for the Lit Power assignments, including the rubrics for marking are on the Lit Power wikipage in the table of contents to your right.

1. Reviewed example of Double Entry Journals- poster on the wall; 1/2 hour of silent reading novels and double entry journals.
2. Continue to finish Document Use Module work on own. Should be done everything but Lit Power "Need to Cut Back" by tomorrow.
